The Apache Trail...

Sunday we decided to all hop in the car for a drive. We hung out in the morning while the kids played outside and we had pancakes for breakfast. The Apache Trail is America's oldest roadway and Arizona's first historic highway. It is narrow and steep with a lot of turns and not a lot of guard rails. You just have to be careful & pay attention.

The major highway was closed for construction so we had to take the back way out there. We had attempted to go see the Founatin Hill's fountain on Wednesday but it was too windy. Today we had better luck. The fountain goes off every hour and shoots over 500 feet into the air!

Then we headed out to the Superstition Mountains to start the Apache Trail. Here are some pictures that were taken along the way.

We stopped for lunch out by Fish Creek Lookout...we thought that was appropriate since Randy was being the Fish Creek Town Drunk today! We had beautiful views and found a benchmark!

We were then back in the car to go to Tortilla Flat...it is an old west city with a population of six. We stopped here for a look around. Here are the kids in the car on the way there...still not crabby and we have been in the car for a few hours!

Here are some views from Tortilla Flat...

And at Tortilla Flat...

Careful of the baby rattlers...they had pink one's for baby girls & blue one's for baby boys

More views from their...

We stopped for ice cream--the kids had Mint Chocolate Chip, Randy had boring Chocolate but Chris was adventurous...she tried the Prickley Pear Ice Cream. It is a berry type of ice cream.
